Funky wedding food inspiration

Funky wedding food inspiration

Pop ups, street food and international markets make up some of the magnificent dining experiences that many of our major cities have to offer.

From Asian and Oriental cuisine to the classic American and Hispanic fayre, you only need to walk the streets to get some mouth-watering and delicious smells and flavours from around the world.

Some of my best culinary ideas come from these amazing stalls and if you’re looking for some funky wedding food inspiration, I can’t think of a better place to start than right in the heart of it all.

Here are a few of my current favourites which incorporate flavours from around the world, all of them pretty much guaranteed to offer your guests something different and they’re bound to love.

A few different ideas!

Mexican fayre – The concept of tacos, nachos and burritos has been around for a while, but did you know that it makes a perfect alfresco way to feed your guests at a wedding? In the same way as the delicious smells from a barbecue can send your taste buds into a frenzy, the same can be said with the kind of treats that go into Mexican wedding food.

NYC wedding – Bringing the flavours of New York to your wedding, you could try an awesome take on the traditional US diner or New York street food stall, with hot dogs, burgers, waffles and kebabs galore. It’s simple delights with a whole host of flavours, presented however you want it, because in NYC anything goes!

Hog roast – deliciously rustic take on a barbecue that brings some added flavour to proceedings. Here we’re talking pulled pork, BBQ sauce and home-made slaw served up with some delicious salads, pasta dishes and cheese platters. This is no standard buffet, as you will tell from the delicious aromas that flood your reception.

Greek goodness – perfect for a summery wedding and wonderfully evocative of sun drenched holidays. This is a chance to enjoy the likes of the best kebabs, served up in freshly baked pitta, Greek salads and delicious home-made dips such as tzatziki and hummus. Oh, and don’t forget to get the ouzo on tap to really get the party swinging.

Vegetarian delights – there’s no way in the world that veggie food has to be boring or even considered as just an alternative. Many vegans and vegetarians and even meat eaters choose to have their whole wedding meat free these days and there are some amazing ways to do it without so much as a nut cutlet in sight.

Pie stall – so many flavours to choose from, so many ways to enjoy a delicious home-made pie.  You can choose to have your pies served up from a pie van with chips and gravy (night out style) or silver served to guests on a beautifully laid up wedding table. Either way, if you love your pies, it’s a fabulous way to do your wedding catering.
